I just love the Alustra Duette honeycomb shades which my sister has just bought from the Hunter Douglas Collection. They are a beautiful combination of pale gold fabric and hardware. The pleated, horizontal effect of her new Alustra Duette honeycomb shades gives a lovely, gentle, soft look to the interior of her day room. This room is often used as a practice room at night for the choir which she accompanies on the piano, so it is important that it is warm and comfortable for her guests in the evening. In the day time of the hot summer, these shades effectively block out the UV rays which might damage her baby grand piano from the sunny side: and yet they still let a gentle light filter through.
As the name suggests, these shades are made of a honeycombed material which Hunter Douglas have designed, again, typically incorporating practical function with pleasing aesthetics. This honeycombed structure is extremely effective in reducing energy costs, as, although it is comparatively light, the padding of delicate honeycomb within the material serves to keep the heat in at night time, or to protect you from the heat of the sun by day.
Alustra Duette honeycomb shades are also ideal for shading large expanses of glass, such as glass sliding doors or french doors which lead onto a patio area, or big “picture” or “panoramic” windows which feature large views. Hunter Douglas honeycomb blinds are suitable for these types of windows because their horizontal arrangement and light weight make them easy to move upward without effort over large areas such as these, leaving the view open and uncluttered. My sister has chosen the EASIGLIDE arrangement for lifting the blinds on the french door which leads out onto her swimming pool. This system means that the blinds remain flat and unruffled against the glass surface which they screen: even as they are drawn upwards, they remain neatly slotted into the gliding grooves at either side of the window space.
If you wish to keep the sun out of these big “picture” windows in order to get some work done, then you can lower the lovely semi-translucent Alustra Duette honeycomb shades, and the beauty of the view, and the sun’s rays will not quite have escaped you. In my sister’s day room, the view of the pool through the lowered Hunter Douglas honeycomb shades looks very tempting: I am very much looking forward to summer time, when I expect I shall be visiting my dear sister quite a lot.
